So, this is a true story. I tweeted it out on Twitter but thought I’d experiment with some of the embed functions that the new Gutenberg editor has and share it here as well.
If you don’t see a series of embedded tweets below, you can check out the original thread on Twitter here.
Here’s a quick story about why it’s not always great to just blindly trust your gut. Or maybe about how I’m an idiot. Or probably both.

I’m usually up pretty early. Like 5 a.m. early, which gives me time to do a few things before my kids get up. 1/
On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I was in my dining room at the front of the house. It must have been 5:30 or so and I noticed a pickup truck driving slowly down the street. I could see it pausing in front of some houses but it didn’t pause in front of mine. 2/

My immediate thought was that it was someone casing houses to try to figure out who was traveling for Thanksgiving. And the reason it didn’t pause in front of my house was because there were plenty of lights on. 3/

It continued down the street and I lost sight of it when it went around the bend just past my house. I thought about mentioning it in our neighborhood NextDoor group but got distracted (hashtag kids) and, with our traveling for Thanksgiving, it slipped my mind. 4/

Fast forward to this morning. It’s about 5:30 again and I’m at the end of the driveway getting the trash can I forgot to bring up to the house last night. And, sure enough, there’s that truck again, driving slowly down the street in the early morning darkness. 5/

My mind starts going into overdrive. They weren’t just some local hoodlums casing houses for Thanksgiving, they’re hoodlums involved in an extended house-casing operation to try to figure out who will be home or not over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays. 6/

I’m already planning what I’m going to say to the police when I get back up to the house but decide to “check the mail” so I can get a better look at the truck. And to make sure this jackhole knows there are people up and about this early in the morning. 7/

So, I walk over to the mailbox just as the truck reaches my neighbor’s house, where it slows a little… and a newspaper comes flying out of the passenger window and lands with a dull thud on the driveway. 8/

He drives past my house (since I don’t subscribe to the newspaper), giving me an amiable wave as he passes and continues on his route. So, yeah, my gut wanted me to call the cops on the friendly newspaper delivery guy. 9/9
